Let me start by saying this:  I am a Southern California native. However, I lived in Brooklyn, NY for close to 10  years. I have not found a cheesecake here in Los Angeles, that comes remotely close to Junior’s cheesecake in Brooklyn. Until now…

I was talking to a friend recently and he was suggesting different restaurants for me to try here is LA. He threw Harriet’s Cheesecake out to me and that was literally the first time I had heard of Harriet’s. He went into detail about it being black owned, and that they had flavors such as Sweet Potato Pie and Banana Pudding, just to name a few. I was immediately intrigued. I needed to try Harriet’s Cheesecake ASAP!

I was working a tight schedule that week, so it took a minute fro me to get there. Harriet’s is located in a little strip mall in Inglewood, CA. If you’re not paying attention you will drive right by it. It is literally one of those places that you find out about through word of mouth. I parked around the corner from the strip mall, fearing I would miss it.

My friend had given me a heads up, and let me know prior that Harriet’s is a small basic spot. No glitz no glamour. Take out only. But that the cheesecake is so good, it would make up for the lack of ambiance. When I walked in I was overwhelmed by how many different flavors of cheesecake Harriet’s offered.

I skimmed the menu and placed my order. Sweet Potato Pie, Banana Pudding, and Bailey’s Irish Creme. 1 slice of each. My total came to $19.50. That’s $6.50 a slice, not bad at all. I handed over my debit card, only to be told they only accept cash. the nice lady pointed me into the direction of the closest ATM machine. Then she had a change of heart and took the $18.00 cash I had on me.

The slices looked amazing! I rushed home to dive right into them. As my friend promised, Harriet’s did not disappoint! I took a bite of the Sweet Potato Pie first. it literally melted in my mouth. Imagine your grandmother’s sweet potato pie placed in the center of a cheesecake. It was everything.

Next, I tried the Banana Pudding. One bite and I knew I had died and gone to heaven. I could not get enough of the Banana Pudding. I never would have thought of combining banana pudding and cheesecake. I was pleasantly surprised and it was amazing. I saved the Bailey’s Irish Creme for last. I enjoyed it. It wasn’t as exciting as the Sweet Potato Pie and Banana Pudding, but nonetheless, it was delish.

I made sure to save some of each flavor for my 17 year old daughter to try. She loved them all. She has not stopped asking me when am I going to bring more cheesecake home. Seeing that we’re right in the middle of the holiday season, I felt it was my duty to spread the word about Harriet’s Cheesecake. Whether you need a hostess gift or just want a slice or whole pie for yourself, you cannot go wrong with Harriet’s.

3. Order whole pie 1 week prior (Extra 8″ cheesecakes of popular flavors made daily)

4. Thanksgiving & Christmas place orders 1 month prior.
