People say love is found when you least expect it. My cousin Stacey is determined to find love, but more importantly, have fun with internet dating. I applaud her for endless efforts and countless dates with internet dating. I will be quick to point out that I have never used an online dating site, it’s just not my thing. But I live vicariously through Stacey and her online dating experiences, both the good and the bad. I like to refer to her most recent online dating experience as “The Threesome”.

A typical day for Stacey could include coffee in the morning with John, a quick afternoon bite with Mike, followed by happy hour with Ted. But recently her typical dating day was thrown for a loop. She started her day with a not so good brunch date. Since it wasn’t a pleasant experience, I will not be shedding  light on it. That evening, she had a dinner date on her schedule as well. The gentleman called her just hours before the date and asked if they could meet for Happy Hour instead, since he wasn’t very hungry. She agreed to happy hour.

Stacey arrived at the restaurant first and ordered a drink. A gentleman by the name of Steve, sitting two chairs over, struck up a conversation with her. During their light weight conversation, her date called concerned about the light rain outside. When he discovered she was at the restaurant he said he was on his way (we both think he was planning to cancel). Stacey and Steve continued to laugh and chat, and she told Steve she was waiting for her internet date to arrive. Steve told the bartender to put Stacey’s drinks on his tab. He was clearly smitten by her.

During their laughing and chatting, Steve looked up and said “I think your date is here. It doesn’t look good.” Stacey text her date to let him know she was sitting at the bar. He came over and sat in the empty chair between Stacey and Steve. Let me remind you, the date had clearly stated he wasn’t hungry and only wanted to have a drink or two. That all changed when he saw how beautiful Stacey was. He decided he was hungry after all and proceeded to asked for a menu. Stacey was surprised at the change of plans. She was more interested in getting to know Steve and was not attracted to her date what so ever. It also didn’t help that her date was 50 pounds heavier than the pictures she had seen.

Steve continued to sit on the other side of her date ( he was already sitting there) making faces and eye contact with Stacey because he knew the date was not going well. Eventually Steve paid his tab and proceeded to leave the restaurant. Stacey felt stuck between a rock and a hard place. She wanted to reach out and give Steve her business card, but didn’t want to be rude to her date: that she wasn’t even attracted to. So she sadly watched Steve walk out of the door.

When her date ended, they both agreed there was no connection and parted their ways. When Stacey walked out of the restaurant she saw Steve sitting in a nearby Starbucks. She rushed right over. Steve was pleasantly surprised when he saw her walk inside. He smiled and said “I told you it didn’t look good!” He asked if she would have a cup of coffee with him and of course she said yes. He asked if she was hungry and she stated she was starving. Steve grabbed her by the hand and asked where she wanted to eat. Stacey said “Sushi” and they walked to a nearby sushi restaurant. After sushi they went out for ice cream.

Steve walked her to her car, where they exchanged numbers and said good night. The next day Steve called her and asked her out on an actual date. They have spoken everyday since they met and yes they

did go out on that actual date. Things are looking good so far.  Stacey is still going on internet dates. She has no intentions of giving that up. This Steve situation just took place days ago. However, she is excited about the new found friendship with Steve and the possibilities of where it can lead. Which goes to prove, Love can be found when you least expect it. I’ll post an update on Stacey and Steve soon. I’ll give them time for their friendship to progress.
