Harmonic Freedom Beauty

I was recently gifted some products from Harmonic Freedom Beauty. It is a Black Owned skin care line based here in Los Angeles. Owner Nakeesa Allen asked me to try some of her products and I was happy to oblige. She gave me the face wash, face scrub, face mask, and the face oil to try. All of the products are 100% natural and Nakeesa makes them all by hand. Every drop felt like heaven on my skin! Let me start with the face wash. It was light- which I loved, and it left my skin feeling refreshingly clean. I don’t…

14 Day Detox. Day 11. Lifestyle changes plus more!

It has brought on positive changes in my lifestyle. I’m eleven days down, three more to go. This fourteen day detox has done more for me than clean toxins out of my body. It has also brought on positive changes to my lifestyle. I made a conscious effort to  be still during these 14 days. Allow myself time to just breathe, to relax, to rest. To enjoy and embrace working in silence. Allow myself to just be. My routine with the detox was simple. Detox tea in the morning. Herbal capsules in the afternoon. Detox tea in the late afternoon. Eat according…

The dreaded closet clean out. It is never fun, but the end result is SO rewarding! To know exactly what you have, and exactly where everything is, will alleviate so much stress from your life.  How many times have you bought a new shirt or a pair of shoes, only for them to be pushed further into the dark sea of your closet. Worn maybe once or twice… Or even worse, how many times have you found an item, with the tag still attached- NEVER worn? I’m not here to judge, I’m here to help! To help you tackle the…

In the Yoruba language, “Eyele Funfun” means “White Pigeon”. In  Yoruba/Lukumi http://www.lukumiart.com/ocha/ tradition, white pigeons represent purity. They are often used to remove negative energy. For several years now, my Babalow (Godfather in Ifa, spiritual mentor) has had me do a yearly cleanse on New Year’s Eve with a white pigeon. It is very simple. I get a white pigeon- not the dirty pigeons you see on the streets. But a beautiful bird purchased from a reputable bird store. I take the bird and sweep it across the top of my head, across the front and back of my body, front…

I recently shaved my head for the second time in 18 months (you can read about it the first time here http://reneholiday.com/nurturing-locs/ ). It was unexpected and it was unplanned. I thought about it for a couple of days. Literally about 48 hours later I called my barber, and headed his way to shave my head, on a Friday evening… Now let me take you back to the weekend prior. My Godmother called me for our weekly conversation. It’s more like a “Spiritual Tune-Up.” In our conversation we talk about my Ocha https://oshunschild.com/2013/11/08/making-ocha-and-the-initiation-procedure/, and that my hair will be shaved again.…

So one morning, my friend in New York sends me a random text. I open it and it’s a picture of a desk with a caption stating “My Desk”.  Wouldn’t have been a big deal, however his desk was a hot mess! I laughed, sent him a picture of my very own desk, also stating- “My Desk”! I’m not going to lie, my desk was a hot mess too! We went back and forth laughing about the state of our desks and what does a messy desk vs a neat desk say about a person? I really don’t consider my…

IMG_0860 Recently, Lenny Kravitz and his “Strut Tour” came to Los Angeles for 1 night only. I have been a fan of Lenny Kravitz since he first stepped on the music scene in the late 80’s. During my pregnancy, I would play his music for my daughter in my womb. And for the last 16 years we have enjoyed the music of Lenny Kravitz together. So as soon as Lenny Kravitz announced he would be performing for 1 night in Los Angeles, I knew we had to take immediate action. I was working when the tickets went on sale, on…

Billy Bungo resides in the quiet town of Montclair, New Jersey. He is an accomplished musician, a Priest of Ifa, and an amazing wood carver. When he is not playing music (he plays over 20 instruments) or doing spiritual work, you will find him quietly working on his wood carvings. Born and raised in Montclair, New Jersey, Billy Bungo lived in Nigeria for many years. This is reflected in both his music and his carvings. I met Billy Bungo about 15 years ago. I am very familiar with his music (which I will post and share at a later date).…

If you live in Los Angeles or plan to visit Los Angeles you MUST visit this spot! I stumbled upon this cute, eclectic bakery called Southern Girl Desserts. My sweet tooth could not resist going inside and trying a few delectables. Pictured are the pineapple coconut cupcakes, which were absolutely delish! I also tried the banana pudding and it simply melted in my mouth. I honestly wanted to lick the container clean.  And they don’t stop there, they also have cakes, pies, peach cobbler, and latte’s. Southern Girl Desserts is located in Los Angeles, inside the Baldwin Hills shopping center.…

Let me start by saying, Bubba Gump Shrimp is just not the place for a first date. There are so many inexpensive, unique places here to dine here in Los Angeles.  Bubba Gump Shrimp is just a no! I recently had the pleasure of catching up with my dear friend Stacey.  She couldn’t wait to tell me about a recent first date she had at Bubba Gump Shrimp.  Like many people, Stacey is an online dater, and met a man with whom she found interesting.  She actually reached out to him and they had a meet and greet over coffee.…
