As soon as you walk into your favorite boutique, you are immediately drawn to the beautiful front table of perfectly folded t-shirts and jeans. The stacks look like perfectly stacked bricks. How exactly did they fold everything with such perfection? Well I’m here to teach you the tricks of the trade! All you need is a clipboard, seriously that’s it. So grab a clipboard and let’s get to folding!
SHIRT FOLD
You can use this simple fold for all of your shirts. It works for t-shirts, knits, woven blouses, and sweaters, ect. Clipboard folding works for both short sleeve and long sleeve. If you have limited closet space, this is an easy way to help organize shirts that do not necessarily have to hung.
STEP ONE

- Place the shirt face down on a sturdy surface (I personally use my bed).
- Place the clipboard in the center of the shirt.
- Ensure the top of the clipboard is at the top of the shirt.
STEP TWO

- Fold one side/sleeve across the clip board.
- Use the edge of the clipboard to line up the side of the shirt.
STEP THREE

- Repeat step two on the other side of the shirt.
- The shirt should look like a rectangle, wrapped around the clip board.
STEP FOUR

- Bring the bottom of the shirt up to the shoulders of the shirt.
- The shirt should look like a square wrapped around the clip board.
- When folding longer shirts, fold a couple of inches at the bottom of the shirt, then bring the bottom of the shirt up to the shoulders.
- Slide the clipboard out of the shirt.
STEP FIVE

The goal is to have a perfect (or somewhat perfect) folded shirt.
STEP SIX

The shape of the clipboard will give you the desired stack of perfectly folded shirts.
JEAN FOLD
This style of folding works for any type of pants, not just jeans. It’s particularly great for stiffer cotton pants like khaki’s. I wouldn’t recommend it for softer fabrics like silk. They will slide all over the place.
STEP ONE

Lay jeans front side up on a sturdy surface.
STEP TWO

- Fold jeans in half.
- Back side should be facing up.
STEP THREE

- Bring the bottom of the jeans towards the top of the jeans. About 3″ from the waistline.
STEP FOUR

- Fold the outer seam on the back side in towards the pant leg.
STEP FIVE

- Make a second fold, by folding the jeans up towards the waistline a second time.
COMPLETED FOLD

- Your jeans should have a square shape.
COMPLETED STACK

- Nice symmetrical (almost perfect) stack of folded jeans.
It will feel a little strange using these folding techniques in the beginning. Take your time… The long term goal is not just pretty stacks, but ORGANIZATION.
